What we collect
We don't ask for your name or email. If you allow notifications, we store:
- the push address your browser gives us, and its encryption keys, which is how notifications reach you
- your country, language, time zone, and device, system and browser type
- the ad or site that brought you here, its click reference, and when you joined
- which notifications we sent you, and whether you clicked them or they led to a recorded result on a partner site
Even without subscribing, we record individual page steps, such as a page view or an answered question, with your country, device type and the ad that brought you here.
Our tracking system, which handles ad clicks and notification clicks, also processes your IP address and technical browser details. It uses them to count visits, find your country and detect automated traffic.
Your browser saves the ad reference for this site locally, so it isn't lost between pages. We don't use advertising cookies.
Why, and on what legal basis
- Sending notifications: your consent, which you give by allowing notifications in your browser.
- Choosing a sensible time to send: also your consent, as part of the same service.
- Measuring ads and notifications, and detecting bots and fraud: our legitimate interest in running and protecting this service.
Who receives data
- Cloudflare hosts this site and its database.
- Your browser's push service, such as Google's for Chrome or Microsoft's for Edge, delivers the notifications. Their content is encrypted on the way.
- The ad network that brought you here may be told that a subscription happened, using its own click reference.
- Partner sites that notifications link to receive your visit and have their own privacy policies. Clicks pass through our tracking system on the way.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK and the EU, including in the US. Where that applies, we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
Detailed records of page steps and individual notifications are deleted after about 30 days and kept only as totals that don't identify you. Your subscription record stays while you're subscribed. After a subscription ends we mark it as ended, stop sending, and keep the record for reporting, unless you ask us to delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, or receive a copy. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off notifications, which doesn't affect anything done before that. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK.
Since we don't hold your name or email, we may need details from you to find your record, such as when you joined and from which device.
How to stop notifications
Open this site's settings in your browser (usually the icon next to the address) and turn off notifications. We stop sending once your browser reports the subscription has ended.
Children
This service isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date above.
